About

ABOUT US

Waterford Woodworks is a garage shop in southeastern Wisconsin. We specialize in crafting one-of-a-kind custom products out of locally sourced lumber.

We believe that every piece of art crafted in our shop is as unique and special as the person whose home it will end up in. That's why every piece we craft is given a "birth certificate" detailing the unique characteristics of that individual piece.

My parents had the same dining room table for 30 years. This same table was the dining room table my grandmother grew up with in her home. Branded on the underside was the name of the artist that crafted this table nearly a century earlier. I enjoyed woodworking, but once I discovered this signature etched in time, my desire to do the same flourished.

Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your home.

OUR PROCESS

Everything begins with the wood. We source our lumber from local hardwood suppliers. With the exception of exotics, all the lumber sourced from our suppliers is harvested locally. We make all efforts to purchase lumber that was harvested for a reason other than its timber value.

We design into the lumber we purchase. The products crafted from a piece of lumber are chosen based on the species, grain pattern, and characteristics of the individual piece of lumber.

That lumber is then milled & dimensioned in our shop to the exact specifications necessary to craft the piece. We do this both to minimize cost, but also to minimize waste. We create as much as possible from each piece of lumber

The milled lumber will then go through a variety of processes (cutting, gluing, shaping, sanding, etc.) until the rough finished product is complete.

Where we spend the majority of our time on each piece (35%-50% of production time) is finish sanding and applying protective coatings. This ensures the piece you've ordered is of the highest quality and highlights the natural beauty of the wood to it's fullest.

Every piece of art crafted in our shop leaves with a "birth certificate" because just like every person, every piece that comes out of our shop is a one-of-a-kind!
